From fence....to Slot-Style Bluebird house, without a single tree being cut down!
While it is up, it reduces accidents during the winter months in some of those states by up to 70%, while cutting down on the snow removal costs by about 33%! We had to take the opportunity to recycle this rustic and wind-aged wood! We had fun making slot-style bluebird houses from them! They are 6" X 6" X 11" and have a recessed floor, an easy open door, and a 1-1/4" slot entrance, perfect for the Eastern Bluebird, yet will discourage sparrows and starlings from nesting. We used all stainless steel screws and waterproof glue, and they were all cut and assembled at Barn in the Sticks! What's new at Barn in the Sticks? Heartwood Architecture for the birds! I'm working on loading the new products now. Heartwood bird, bat, owl, woodpecker houses are mostly made from left-over cypress from furniture building, so a single tree is never cut down for their houses! They are also BEAUTIFUL. Here is one of their bluebird houses and a bat house. Most of the Heartwood products are hand-shingled with stone washed wooden shingles, trimmed in copper.
