Attracting Orioles

!

The most popular Oriole is the Northern Oriole, which includes the Baltimore and Bullock's Oriole.  Orioles are very easy to spot with the bright orange color.

Types of feeders

  • Orioles will eat apples, mulberries, blackberries, blueberries, corn, elderberries, figs, nectar, oranges, peaches, pears, peas, and suet. They will also feed at jelly feeders.
  • If you feed them nectar, find a feeder with perches.  To feed fruit, you can make one easily with a piece of wood and a couple of wooden dowels or large nails.  We offer several types of hummingbird feeders, to hold fruit, jelly, and even nectar.

Orioles will hang out in large shade trees, flying from tree to tree in search of food.  They frighten easily, so tend to like to stay hidden or near a tree while feeding.
