This one is probably one of my most favorites. I wanted a huge hopper feeder to put near my pine trees. It turned out better than I had planned. It holds roughly 3 gallons of seed, and really attracted the cardinals this spring.
This project took a little while. The feeder has plexiglass windows so you can monitor the seed level, a hinged top that opens to the side, so that there is no open seam on top for the water to come in. The seed ledge is also spaced so that water will drain out of the seed, should any make it on the ledge. It is made from solid cedar throughout. I also made a square at the base, so if I decide to move it, I can easily just lift it off one 4X4, and place it on another. I had it on my patio this winter, but moved it into the yard this spring...my wife really likes birds, she just doen't want them perching around her lawn furniture!
