Hummingbird Tip

hummer

To keep ants and crawling insects from getting your hummingbird nectar, try a little a thin layer of vaseline to the base of the feeder.  Remember to clean your feeder often to make sure the little hummers come back...they will frequent a clean feeder much more often than a dirty one!

Be careful when applying the vaseline to the feeder, a feeder like the one on the right actually has a stem attaching it to a deck board, which can be coated with vaseline without harm to the birds.  You don't want to put the vaseline where the birds will get it on their feet while perching.
