2 suet & a seed
Feeding woodpeckers without the pests

If you enjoy watching the downey and hairy woodpeckers, you know that eventually larger birds will find your suet and chase away your woodpeckers.  Here are some products and suggestions!

Another common issue when you start feeding birds is putting out suet to attract woodpeckers, and having larger birds eat all of the suet and chase away the woodpeckers…but luckily, Barn in the Sticks has a solution for you again!

Most nuisance birds are not “clingers”, that is, they will not cling to a tree, or your feeder, they want to perch.  So, try to stay away from feeders that have a perched suet feeder.  Instead, try a bottom feeding suet feeder.  Woodpeckers, especially the Downey and Hairy woodpecker like to have a tail-prop feeder, which allows them to better balance while enjoying the suet.  We offer both of these feeders at Barn in the Sticks.
