Every year, we see more and more hummingbirds in Wisconsin. Did you know, it is easy to attract hummingbirds throughout the United States. Just put out a hummingbird nectar feeder, filled with a mixture of 4 parts water to one part sugar and clean and refill it weekly. Clean it a little more often if it is hot outside, a little less often when cooler. Enjoy watching the hummingbirds! Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red, so make sure you get a red colored hummingbird feeder for your backyard.
We don't add any dye to our hummingbird nectar, and suggest that you do the same. As long as you have a red hummingbird feeder, the hummingbirds will come to it. Hummingbirds are aggressive little birds, and will fight over the nectar. If your hummingbirds are aggressive, consider putting up several smaller hummingbird feeders, rather than just one large hummingbird feeder. You'll find it will help you attract more hummingbirds to your backyard.
If you have bees, consider purchasing a hummingbird feeder, which is all red. Hummingbird feeders with yellow flowers and yellow parts tend to attract more bees than red flowers.
