The only way to attract bats to your backyard is by providing habitat or a nesting box for the bats, and let them see it, put it in a great location, like on a house or shed, facing so it will catch the morning sun.  Put it at least 15 feet high, and paint or stain it to help absorb the sun's heat if you live in a colder climate.  If you do put the bat box or bat house in a tree, the bats will probably not find it until the following spring, when the leaves are off the tree.  You can also put two bat houses back to back to help the colony grow.  Add more bat houses to your backyard to grow the colony even more.
